The launch of the International Guidance on the prevention and management of the diabetic foot was one of the highlights of the Symposium. These Guidance documents are produced after 2 years of hard work by groups of experts of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF). This unique set of evidence based documents can act as the basis for national guidelines, and consisted amongst others of a series of systematic reviews on diagnosis, on prognosis and on treatment of peripheral artery disease, on prevention of foot ulcers, on off-loading, on wound healing and on infection. These systematic reviews were the basis of a series of Guidance documents on these topics , which were summarised in the concise Practical Guidance for Daily Practise. At the end of the Symposium all participants received an electronic version of the Guidance documents, which can also be found on www.IWGDF.org.
